The Alto do Príncipe Trail and sunsets for thrill-seekers
This route climbs slowly from the Rodas pier to the rugged cliffs on Monteagudo Island. The Alto do Príncipe Trail also sets out from the information booth, but instead of moving from one island to another through the dike on the way to the campsite, it takes the road on the right going towards Figueiras Beach to the north. Then it climbs up a forest track until the main crossroads, where the diversion on the left—amidst pine and scrub—will take you to Alto do Príncipe (the last 100 m are along a rocky path). From there, you have an excellent, panoramic view of the cliffs, and from the Cadeira da Raíña (literally, “the Queen’s Chair”)—a rocky formation that looks like a natural balcony over the Atlantic Ocean—, towards the sunset.
