The passenger ship company Piratas de Nabia expands its fleet with a new catamaran, the ‘Pirata de Canexol’
The ship has the distinctive three-prow design of the catamarans from this firm headquartered in Castropol, and with its length of 24 metres, it will be able to comfortably carry up to 250 passengers through the waters of the Ría de Vigo.
Piratas de Nabia’s new catamaran is 24 metres long, with a capacity to comfortably carry up to 250 passengers through the waters of the Ría de Vigo. The catamaran ‘Pirata de Canexol’ has already been christened and will soon be ready to join the rest of Piratas de Nabia’s fleet.
The name of the ship was chosen in honour of one of the beaches on Ons Island—an island which has played a pivotal role in the history of Nabia and that of its shipowner, Susi Acuña.
It was built by GONDÁN, a shipbuilding company with more than 90 years of experience in the sector, which is headquartered in Castropol, a municipality in Asturias.
After being towed to the port of Ribadeo, the catamaran was moored at the Porcillán pier, where it will remain for engine start-up and calibration operations, as well as sea trials, until its scheduled delivery in late May.
Ready to set sail
The ‘Pirata de Canexol’ was towed last March to the port of Ribadeo. Since then, the catamaran has been moored at the Porcillán pier, where it will remain for engine start-up and calibration operations, as well as sea trials, until its scheduled delivery in late May.
By summer 2017, it will be fully operational to sail the seas between the port of Vigo and the Cíes Islands on one of the routes it will cover when the season begins for the passenger ship company.
